How to Broadcast Live Music on Ustream

Broadcast your band's music live over the Internet using Ustream.

Ustream makes it possible for anyone with a fast Internet connection and a microphone to broadcast live music. You can use a video camera attached to your computer to film a band playing live and stream the music over Ustream. It's also possible to broadcast an audio-only stream of live music on Ustream.

Create an account on Ustream's website.

Create a channel for your Ustream broadcast. Provide a show name, category and description.

Connect a microphone to your computer. Attach a video camera to your computer if you want to stream video of a live band.

Click the "Go Live!" button at the top of Ustream's website and select the channel you want to broadcast to.

Give Adobe's Flash Player permission to access your microphone and camera when it asks.

Position your microphone and camera where you will capture the best sound and video of the live music. Preview your broadcast in Ustream's Broadcast Console to determine the best position for your camera.

Adjust the audio and video quality settings in the Broadcast Console to get a better quality audio broadcast. Increase the audio quality to the maximum. Reduce the video quality if your broadcast is choppy, or uncheck the "Video Broadcast" option to focus on streaming your live music smoothly.

Click "Start Broadcast" when you are ready to begin broadcasting your live music on Ustream.

Download the free desktop Ustream Producer if you want a better quality broadcast than you get with the Web-based Broadcaster. Purchase Ustream Producer Pro if you want to remove advertisements from your Ustream broadcasts.

Don't broadcast copyrighted music on Ustream unless you have written permission. Ustream may terminate your account if you infringe on the rights of copyright holders, and copyright holders can sue you.
