Creating a themed invitation to to match your party's theme lets the guests know what to expect when they arrive at the event. For example, if you are throwing a concert or music-themed party for your next birthday or fund-raiser, create concert ticket invitations. Instead of using a word processing program or purchasing ticket invitations from an invitations printing company, make your own using card stock. It's an inexpensive project and it gives you control of the final product.

Cut pieces of heavy card stock into 5 1/2-by-2-inch rectangles. Make as many rectangles as you need invitations.

2

Set your sewing machine to the shortest stitch length possible. Without thread, run the card stock pieces through the sewing machine 1 1/4 inches in from the right side to create a perforation for the ticket. Repeat the process with each rectangle.

3

Write “Admit One” on the 1 1/4-inch section of each rectangle using a fine-tip pen.

4

Write the party information in the remainder of the card stock rectangle using a fine-tip pen. Work the details into typical concert-ticket format. For example, for the event, list the type of celebration -- such as a birthday or graduation -- and the guest of honor's name. Underneath the event, write the venue, which is where the party will be held. Beneath the venue, include the date and time. Also include random details around the ticket such as a ticket cost or seat number, using an actual ticket reference.

Tips & Warnings

If your hand writing is sloppy or you have a large number of invitations to make, do not hand write them. Instead, have a rubber stamp created or make a sticker. Specialty rubber stamps are available through online specialty companies. You can make your own stickers with sticker paper, a word processing program and a home printer.

When guests arrive at the party, tear the perforated edges off of the invitations, if desired.

Instead of a sewing machine, use a perforation wheel attachment on a hand roller cutter, such as the type used for scrap booking.

If you want to tear the perforated part of the ticket when the guests arrive, be sure to let them know to bring the ticket. Also, include one ticket for each guest. For example, instead of sending one invitation to a family of four, include four ticket invitations in the envelope.
